John is the senior partner of the LLP and is in charge of our Law for Business Group. John was originally an electronics engineer and qualified as a solicitor at the London intellectual property law practice, Bristows, in 1990. After qualification, John worked as a solicitor at Bristows for 6 years, then spent 3 years as sole in-house counsel at The Generics Group plc (now Sagentia Group plc) in Cambridge, before joining VSHLaw to found its commercial law operations in 1999.

Louise is head of our Private Client Department. Louise has extensive experience in advising traditional private clients and elderly clients regarding Wills, Powers of Attorney, Court of Protection matters, trusts and administration of estates, with an emphasis on the higher net worth individual and more complicated probates. Much of what she does involves tax planning and wealth preservation. Louise’s specialism is advising farmers on partnership agreements, succession planning and capital tax mitigation, often as part of a strategic team with land agents and accountants. Louise is a highly regarded local solicitor, having advised generations of families over the years.

Rhona is Managing Partner of VSH Law, specialising in commercial and employment law with a particular interest in working alongside Multi-Academy Trusts in respect of rebrokerage of schools. Before qualifying as a solicitor, Rhona worked in a management role in United Utilities and later as a researcher in Liverpool John Moores University. Following qualification, Rhona became Practice Manager of a firm in Liverpool and then Managing Partner of that firm from August 2004, before joining VSH in November 2006 and subsequently becoming Managing Partner in April 2007. Rhona qualified as a Workplace Mediator in 2012 and is also an area representative (Northamptonshire) for the Solicitors Benevolent Association and a past President of Northamptonshire Law Society.

Shelly heads up the Agricultural, Commercial and Bespoke Property function within our Law for Business Group. Shelly is also Head of Land Law. She deals with agricultural, commercial and bespoke property transactions including sales, purchases and leases together with more complex arrangements relating to land acquisition, development and disposal. Shelly also has extensive knowledge of property ownership and works alongside accountants and other professionals to assist with restructuring property portfolios in connection with asset reorganisation and tax planning. Shelly has a particular interest in agricultural and unregistered land transactions although she provides a full range of non-residential conveyancing services.
Shelly has worked for the firm since 1999 and since 2006 as a Licensed Conveyancer. She now works with Jane Brooks and also alongside members of our individual and family services team or our business team depending on the nature of the matter.
Qualifications: LL.B. (Hons) Licensed Conveyancer – (2006)
Following a degree in Law and Spanish, which included a year at the University of Oviedo, Spain, Laura qualified as a solicitor in 2002. She joined VSH Law in late 2015 and then became a partner in September 2017. Laura is a very experienced private client solicitor undertaking a wide variety of work including Will drafting, Lasting Powers of Attorney preparation and registration, estate planning, wealth preservation, applications to the Court of Protection and administration of estates. Laura enjoys an admirable reputation locally and has for many years been assisting families with their complex Wills, estate planning and administration of estates with a foreign element. She prides herself in giving common sense advice. Laura is a Council Member of the Northamptonshire Law Society. She is also a Notary Public and fluent in Spanish. Our Legal Team
Paula joined the Residential Conveyancing Department at VSH Law in September 2015, as an assistant, bringing with her a wealth of legal experience gained across many practice areas of law. Having qualified as a Licenced Conveyancer in 2016, Paula runs her own case load, covering all aspects of residential conveyancing, assisted by Juliet Sewell.

Jane is a solicitor mainly working alongside Shelly Phillips within our Agricultural, Commercial and Bespoke Property team which forms part of our Law for Business Group. She has a particular interest in agricultural and partnership matters although deals with a range of non-residential property transactions including sales, purchases and leases as well as carrying out first registrations. Jane works alongside accountants and other professionals to provide assistance with the property aspects of business and partnership re-organisations as well as members of our individual and family services team, and our business team, depending on the nature of the matter.
Jane also works with John Davies and Rhona Rowland in the Law for Business Group on matters unrelated to property including business sales, business purchases, investments and general commercial contracts.
Prior to her legal career, Jane worked as a health visitor, having obtained a degree in nursing from Manchester University at the same time as obtaining her Registered General Nurse and Registered Health Visitor qualifications. She subsequently attended Warwick University where she obtained her law degree before moving to Northamptonshire to join VSH in 2008 as a paralegal. She is currently undertaking a Masters degree in Rural Estate and Land Management at Harper Adams University.

Sophie specialises in Probate matters and assists other fee earners with the administration of estates, Wills, Powers of Attorney and Court of Protection work, which involves the appointment of Deputies, under the supervision of the Head of the Private Client department. Sophie is currently studying to become a fully qualified Chartered Legal Executive.
Claire joined VSH Law at the end of 2016 as a solicitor working in the residential property department, ably assisted by Beth Farmer. Claire specialises in buying, selling and re-mortgaging residential properties including leasehold property as well as transfers of equity, new build purchases from developers and shared ownership transactions. Prior to joining VSH Law, Claire attended the University of Birmingham, obtaining a degree in Commerce and later undertook the Graduate Diploma in Legal Studies at the University of East Anglia and the LPC at BPP Law School in Leeds. Claire qualified in 2009 and has since then worked with leading law firms in Sydney, Australia and Northamptonshire.

Janette specialises in Private Client work including Wills, Probate and Associated Tax Matters, Estate Planning, Powers of Attorney, Court of Protection and Elderly Client. She has worked for large national firms as well as smaller High Street practices so brings a wide range of experience to her clients. Janette joined us from the RSPB where she was a Senior Legacy Officer. She dealt with high net worth estates of individuals who had benefited the charity in their Will and also advised the charity’s Directors and Trustees on the legal implications for the charity of contentious issues. Her knowledge an experience makes Janette ideally suited to guide clients through an estate with a charitable beneficiary.
Kelly has previously worked with leading Northamptonshire and Bedfordshire firms. She qualified as a Chartered Legal Executive in 2003 and specialises in Residential Conveyancing, heading up our Residential Conveyancing Department. Her expertise extends to buying, selling and remortgaging of residential properties along with equity release and lifetime mortgages, transfers of equity, leasehold property and acting for purchasers buying new builds from Developers. Kelly is supported by Lucille Barnett and Beth Farmer.

Our warm welcome and people we can’t do without
Lucille works in the Residential Conveyancing team, supporting Kelly Wedge. Lucille had previously worked in residential conveyancing with a local firm and is currently studying to become a Legal Executive, in order to support the practical skills and knowledge she already possesses.
Our excellent receptionist Janet, always ready to help and a mine of information, having been with VSH Law for more years than she cares to remember. Janet is a qualified Legal Secretary, having specialised in family law for many years but previously working in other departments of the firm. Janet is one of our resident First Aiders and has received training in the Heart Start program. Janet therefore has her finger on the pulse in more ways than one!
Beth joined VSH Law in March 2000 and is a very experienced conveyancing assistant. Beth works with Claire Hogben in the Residential Conveyancing Department, providing support and advice on all aspects of residential conveyancing.
Jane joined VSH Law in August 2015, having gained a wide range of experience in both commercial and residential conveyancing administration work and qualifying as a Chartered Legal Executive in 2010. Initially Jane worked as part of the Residential Conveyancing support team but now works within the Private Client team, supporting Partner, Laura Carter.

Rosemary joined VSH Law in May 2016 as an assistant in the Private Client Department, assisting fee earners with the administration of estates, Wills, Powers of Attorney and Court of Protection work under the supervision of the Head of the Private Client Department.
Wendy joined VSH Law in January 2018 moving on from a role at a local dental practice in which she gained extensive experience as a key member of staff. Wendy now works at reception alongside Janet.
Juliet joined VSH Law in September 2018 and works with Paula Bird in the Residential Conveyancing Department. She has over 15 years conveyancing experience and is studying to become a Licensed Conveyancer.
Keiran joined the firm in September 2015 as an Administration Assistant, working with Janet Brackley. Keiran’s previous experience in customer service roles is ideally suited to his current role as an Administrative Assistant, providing support to the Law for Business team which includes John Davies, Rhona Rowland and Jane Brooks. Keiran has now embarked upon further training to qualify as a Legal Executive.
Rosie joined VSH Law in January 2014 as an Administration Assistant and now provides administrative support to Shelly Phillips and Jane Brooks within our Agricultural, Commercial and Bespoke Property team. Rosie started studying to become a Legal Executive in 2015 and is now well on the way to becoming fully qualified.
